Screen-free play can be quiet, energetic, social or independent. Choose an activity the child enjoys rather than expecting one toy to replace every screen-based interest.

Look for an inviting starting point

Simple materials can work well when the child can begin without a long explanation. Consider construction, pretend play, drawing, puzzles or a game that suits the group.

Think about repeat play

Ask whether the toy allows a new story, design or challenge on another day. A single-use craft kit and reusable construction materials offer different experiences.

Make it manageable

Consider setup, cleanup, mess and space. Screen-free does not mean supervision-free: follow the product’s age labels and warnings.
